After Addie’s worst nightmare has come true there’s only one more thing she can do to get out of this marriage. In an effort to cling to her freedom she makes a deal with a mysterious stranger resulting in a terrible mistake that changes her life forever.

“If you insist on calling them, take heed: be careful what you ask for, be willing to pay the price. And no matter how desperate or dire, never pray to the gods that answer after dark,” says Estele. Adeline LaRue lives in 1714 France in a tiny village named, Villion, where everyone knows each other. They’re born, they live, and they die in the same village without leaving, without living. That’s what bothers Addie. She wants to see the world, not be bonded to a small town for the rest of her life until she withers to nothing. Her parents don’t approve, but Addie finds refuge in Estele Magritte, the crazy woman of the village. Estele teaches her about the gods that people once worshipped including their power and their fickleness. When time is running out Addie prays one last time without realizing just how heavy her cost will be.

Addie’s mistake changes her life in a way she never dreamt possible. The novel, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab follows Addie throughout her life flashing back from the past to the present and switching to the other main character’s perspective. This book has to be one of the best books I’ve ever read and most definitely has the best writing. With a major plot twist and V.E. Schwab’s amazing writing, one simply can’t put it down. From the wicked smiles, dark curls, and the cat Book, the story is intricately woven with spectacular details, powerful emotions, and relatable characters.

This book needs to be added to the to-be-read pile for anyone and every one as soon as possible. It’s a story no one will ever forget.
