All Out, All Game, All Season

FAHS Boys' Volleyball

April 19, 2021

In a season that has been very different from years past, FAHS Boys Volleyball team has been able to keep a positive mindset through it all. These athletes have had several challenges that came along with the coronavirus thrown at them this season, and have managed to overcome and push through these uncertain times.

Aiden McDounugh speaks on the team’s goals for this season, saying ¨As a team, our underlying goal is to build up the culture, being together as a unit. We want to win our games, compete with all of our matchups, and improve from game to game. For our players, we are looking to help them grow the best way possible, and to become a student of the game.¨

Boys Volleyball is one of the fall sports that ended up taking place at the end of winter and went into the spring. Although the boys are grateful to have a season at all, the shortened season has definitely taken a toll on the athletes and has pushed everything to move faster. The boys have a total of  9 games this season and have currently won 1 game and lost 2 games as of March 26, 2021.  The boys’ first 3 games were against Heritage Christian, Edgewood, and Middleton. They started off their season strong by winning their first game against Heritage Christan, with a score of 3-0. Unfortunately in their following  games against Edgewood and Middleton the boys did not leave with a win, but they didn’t go down without a fight. Junior Jacob Murphy speaks about this game, saying ¨The first set was bad but we made it very close in the 2nd and 3rd set, but we ultimately still couldn’t get the job done.¨ All the players put forth their best effort against both Edgewood and Middleton and will strive to continue to do that throughout the rest of the 2020-2021 season.

Although there has been so much change happening this year, one thing stayed the same, the relationships and the bonds the Boys Volleyball team share. This year more than ever it is crucial that the boys are able to communicate well with each other. The team aspect of the boys’ volleyball team is different from other sports, the relationships between the varsity and JV teams are as if they are like one big team rather than many separate teams. Senior Kaden Klingbiel says, ¨To me being able to become a whole team from JV and Varsity is my favorite thing and always has been.  Unlike other sports, JV and Varsity are right next to each other every day so you get to see the younger team and watch them learn and put stuff together.  Many times they get to come up and swing against us which gives them experience but also doesn’t completely close off whether you are a JV player or a Varsity player.  It allows you to feel like a volleyball family encouraging them instead of separate teams.¨

This year has shown the boys volleyball team what they are capable of and has created relationships between teammates that will be carried over to their next season in the fall.
